Walford Mill Crafts- Wood and Fibre Exhibition October 2014

I meant to post about this when it actually was happening but hey, life gets in the way a bit sometimes and better late than never!

I'm very pleased to say that I was asked to exhibit my work in a recent exhibition held at Walford Mill Crafts. In my second year of university I undertook a two week work placement there and so was very excited to hear that my own work was to be on display. I am very thankful to have been a part of a very interesting collection of textiles and furniture.

Unfortunately the exhibition has now ended but please click on the link below if you would like to see some photos:

Hopefully this will be the first of many!

Thank you.

Bridport Vintage Market

Bank Holiday Weekend- Sunday 26th May

Bridport Vintage Market.

I have spent the weekend back in Dorset with family and on Sunday we visited the nearby town of Bridport where they run a monthly Vintage market. It is one of my favourite places to browse as there are lots of stalls and quite a few permanent shops selling a variety of vinatage items. I have been a couple of times before where I picked up a pewter mug and a retro umbrella. On this occasion one particular stall had a selection of lovely fabrics on display and I was especially drawn to a 1950's Heals inspired woven length of cloth. I knew I had to have it and was so happy to discover it was only £10! My plan is to weave up my own samples using this fabric as a starting point for inspiration. I love the geometric design and would love to re-interpret it using more contemporary colours and different yarns. I also picked up two smaller pieces of woven cloth from the same stall for only 50p each.

Hella Jongerius

I have recently discovered the work of Industrial Designer Hella Jongerius and not surprisingly was particularly drawn to her textile designs. I came across this video on the Dezeen website and found it very interesting. I was struck by the simplicity of her approach to colour and pattern within her woven pieces and I now feel quite inspired!
